Need Help Choosing a Stairlift

If you have any trouble deciding which of the stairlifts would best fit your stairs, then contact us, we’ll quickly help you determine which stairlifts would be most suitable.

Stairlifts Frequently Asked Questions
Are my stairs suitable for a stairlift?
You don’t need to have a straight, wide and strong staircase to have a stairlift. In fact, stairlifts can be installed in very narrow and winding. Many stairlift models have been designed with a compact carriage and rail along with folding arms, seat and footrest to make them especially suitable for narrower staircases. Others are also well suited to negotiating bends, intermediate landings and corridors with ease.

Where does the stairlift fit?
To avoid damaging your house decorations the stairlift is fitted directly to the tread of the stairs instead of the wall.

How much does a stairlift cost?
Stairlifts vary in cost, due to the shape and size of the staircase. Reconditioned models start from £1300, but the best way to find out a costing is to contact us for a free quotation.

How long will the stairlift installation take?
A stairlift can normally be installed within a few hours, and our dedicated engineers will clear up before they leave to minimise the disruption to your home. They will also test your stairlift thoroughly and make sure you know exactly how to operate it.

What happens if I want to resell my stairlift?
Give us a call and we’ll offer a buy back price for your stairlift. As we supply reconditioned stairlifts, we are always interested in buying lifts back. Your stairlift may need to be inspected by one of our engineer to enable us to make a fair offer on your lift.

Where can I get advice on which stairlift to buy?
You can contact us for independent advice on top stairlift brands (we don’t manufacture and aim to give you the widest choice of stairlifts available), or you can contact your local mobility centre or local occupational therapist.

Do I need a stairlift?
Do you plan your daily activities ahead to avoid going upstairs and coming downstairs too many times? Do the stairs in the home which once seemed so easy to negotiate suddenly seem very daunting? Moving house or living downstairs is no way to live your life, but there is an answer – a stairlift. Today’s stairlifts are very easy to use, attractively designed, safe and most importantly surprisingly affordable.

Are there cheaper alternative to a new stairlift?
You can rent a stairlift for as little as £10 a week or buy a second-hand or reconditioned stairlift from £1300. Both options are only available for straight stairlifts.

What happens if there is a power cut?
The stairlift will stop, unless you have a battery powered stairlift. Battery operation assures you of access between floors even if a power cut occurs. The unit charges automatically when the lift is parked both at the top or bottom of the stairway.

Are stairlifts noisy?
The quality of home stairlifts is of high standard and most models operate silently. If you are very sensitive to noise, opt for a battery operated lift. These models offer the smoothest and quietest ride on the market.

What stairlifts available to me?
Your health and environment have a direct impact on your choice of stairlifts. For instance, if you suffer from strong backache, you should go for a model with a soft start and finish system. If you have poor hand dexterity a toggle switch or joystick will help you operate your lift. Your staircase set up also has a direct impact (e.g. doors or thresholds near the staircase, bulkheads or banister rails, radiators near the staircase). The easiest way to know which stairlift models are most appropriate to you and your home is to contact us and organise a free no obligation quote with one of our engineers.

What happens if the stairlift breaks down?
Simply call the within 24 hour callout number and the engineer will get you going again. We employ one of the largest service providers in the UK to offer you our excellent within 24-hour callout, to keep you going 365 days a year. The callout number is provided in your user handbook and on the front of your lift.
